It's rightly said that fashion comes at a cost, there are some fashion trends prevalent which are creating musculoskeletal and physiological issues. Let's discuss them over here:-

  1. High Heels- wearing high heels continuously can put a lot of pressure and undue strain on metatarsal heads of the feet , strain on calf muscles, back of the knee and chronic low back pain. It can also create a lot of pressure on the veins of the legs. Read in more detail on my blog on high heels.

  2. Tight Jeans & shapewears - Wearing tight jeans not only creates a pressure on your waist, legs , knee joints impeding the circulation of the legs. It can trigger sciatica in long term and can lead to numbness and tingling in the legs. Similarly shapewears creates a lot of compression on the muscles and leads to impeding circulation.

  3. Halter necks/ Collared Indian Suits/ Large Hoodies- These clothes creates a pull on the neck and keep your neck & head forward throughout you are wearing them. It leads to excessive stretching of the muscles on the back side of the neck and can manifest as chronic neck pain.

  4. Pencils skirts- These sort of skirts pulls your knees toward each other , which makes it very difficult to maintain balance and walk plus it reduces the range of motion of your legs. Wearing these skirt can lead to osteoarthritis in long term.

  5. Heavy hand bags- Carrying heavy hand bags leads to continuous use of forearm and arm muscles, one has to always keep the shoulder elevated . This can lead to shoulder pains or bicipital tendinitis. So keep your handbags light and keep the unnecessary stuff out.

  6. Ill Fitting Bras- Bras that are very tight , have very thin straps. or are worn very tight can lead to what we call as Bra Strap Syndrome. So wearing proper fitting & full coverage bras is very important ; also not to wear them when there is no need. You can read more about in my blog on ill Fitting bras.

  7. Heavy Neck Accessories- Already our neck has to carry the weight of our head for the whole day , adding weight of the heavy necklaces can put undue strain on the neck muscle and create slouched postures. This can even to lead to continuous headaches.

  8. Thongs- Yes wearing thongs helps you prevent those unnecessary lines digging on your sides but a tight thong can create an upward pull and put tension on the muscles. Also it can relocate the bacteria from the anal area to vagina. So continuous usage of thongs should be avoided.
