MIGRAINE: TYPES, STAGES & RECOVERY

Migraine is a neurological condition that can cause multiple symptoms. It's frequently characterized by moderate to intense, debilitating headaches. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, difficulty speaking, numbness or tingling, and sensitivity to light and sound. Migraines often run in families and affect all ages.


Triggers of Migraine

  1. Sudden light

  2. Loud Noises

  3. Stress

  4. Skipping Meals

  5. Changing Circadian Rhythm

  6. Acute attack of Cervical Spondylitis

  7. Lack of Sleep

Identify if its Migraine:

  1. Unilateral (One sided)

  2. Headache lasting 4-72 hrs

  3. Aggravated by physical activity

  4. Accompanied with vomiting or nausea

Types of Migraine:

  1. Episodic - Episodic Migraine can be classified as headaches which 0-14 times a month.

  2. Chronic - Chronic Migraine can be classified as headaches which are happening 15 or more times a month. Episodic migraines can turn into Chronic Migraines over a period of time.

Stages of Migraine:

REMEDIES TO TAKE YOUR OF YOUR MIGRAINE:


  1. SLEEP:- Sleep is the best remedy for migraine headaches, sleep in a dark and quite room. You can read more about how to improve your quality of sleep in my blog on sleep .

  2. Put a ice cube on the nape of the neck or simply take a cold pack under your neck in order to relieve your symptoms as it relaxes the neck muscles.

  3. Drinking plenty of fluids especially coconut water , is really useful in reducing the intensity of headache.

  4. People who have chronic migraines should make a habit of eating a fruit like banana or apple as soon as they wake up, it really helps in preventing migraine attacks .

  5. Do not skip your meals as acidity is one of the trigger for your migraine headaches.

  6. Try and avoid the triggers like stress, gaps between the meals, bad biological clock, loud sounds and sudden lights.

  7. Have Turmeric , tulsi and ginger infused green tea or simply boil all three in a glass of water till the water is reduced to half quantity and a decoction is prepared.

  8. Stretching and strengthening your neck muscles will really helps in reducing the episodes of the migraine.

  9. Using peppermint essential oil & lavender oil helps in giving relief in headaches.

  10. Taking shirodhara to destress and greeva vasti treatment to relax your neck muscles is really helpful in reducing migraine headaches.

  11. Getting neck mobilization from C2-C5 spine is very very effective in relieving migraine related headaches.
